Description
My problem is that I am running out of space on my MAC (I wish a 5 TB or 10 TB drive was an option for MacBook Pro) and need to implement some kind of HFS+ file or volume compression solution. I will either use OSX's built in HFS+ Compression Technology via a tool like MoreSpace or I may opt to go completely 3rd party with an application like. Afsctool AFSC (Apple File System Compression) tool is an utility that can be used to apply HFS+ compression to file (s), decompress HFS+ compressed file (s), or get information about existing HFS+ compressed file (s). Mac OS 10.6 or later is required. Latest version is 1.6.4 (build 34).

You can't just turn HFS+ compression, you need to compress the files beforehand and, likely, set the compressed flag. Let me know how you want to proceed.
